It would work great, however, on our .308. It would be too big for use in a .223/5.56, at least if you expect the assembly to be handy. It will suppress shot sounds, but do you really want to add a foot-long suppressor to your AR carbine?
However, if it is what you have and you want to use it until your .223/5.56 suppressor is approved, then go for it.
.338S
This is a specific niche, meant to handle the suppression of a .338 Lapua Magnum. The 338LM is essentially (but not exactly) a necked-down .416 Rigby, and pumped up in operating pressure. It was meant to be a near-.50BMG cartridge, but one that did not punish the shooter as much as a single-shot .50. If you have a suppressor for this, it will work just fine on your .300 magnums, but it will be big for a .300, and absurd on a .308. A .223? Get real.
Any time you use a suppressor on a caliber it is not directly designed or intended for, you also have to deal with the mounting system. If you want to, for instance, put your .308 suppressor on your AR, you have to find an adapter for the threads. Or, if it is a QD system, you’ll need a QD mount with .223/5.56 threads and .308 QD socket, which will only be made by the manufacturer of your suppressor. If you want to use a suppressor across systems, do your homework and find out if the prospective maker makes the adapter parts, direct-thread or QD, to do what you need. If they don’t, buy something else. If no one does, take that as a hint.
To summarize, you’ll need a suppressor with a clearance that bullet diameter or larger than what you will mount it on; a case that is the same size or smaller than the one the suppressor is made for; and a mounting system that can be adapted.
